Does empowerment is reaching the path to true happiness?
According to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s), a big concern for the International Community, during the 56 CSW at the UN, the 6 of March of 2012 they were different panel presentations speaking about one of the Goals: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women.
During the morning was this side event: Women empowerment in Developing Country Democracy. It was sponsored by the Dominican Republic, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD). GFDD is a nonprofit organization that accomplishes its goals through research projects and training programs dedicated to promote collaboration between organizations in the United States and the Dominican Republic in order to conduct research, enhance public understanding, design public policies, devise strategies, offer capacity building and foster exchange in the areas crucial for the social, economic and democratic development of the Dominican Republic, Caribbean and Latin America.
In the event were present delegates of Israel, Dominican Republic, US and Guatemala. The speaker focused on the issue of the generation the policies that contribute to the commitments of the MDG’s and in how to emerge scholarships and economic policies in Latin-American. The ambassador of Kenya spoke about the experience of his country in the implementation of Women Empowerment. They have an internal legislation about how women can have access to the politics. They have 20 permanent representatives in the UN. About the history in Kenya, he said that in 1893 was the day that the Government adopts the women’s right to vote. In Kenya are 11% women in the Parliament, and 30% in Public Policy. About Egypt, they said that from the 600 people of the Parliament, 10 where women.
Because one of the most fundamental components of power is population a good book I recommended you around this topic is “Population Decline and the Remaking of Great Power Politics” by Susan Yoshihara (Editor), Douglas A. Sylva (Editor), Nicholas Eberstadt (Foreword).
In my opinion a woman is more a woman when she shares her power. What is the meaning and purpose of our life? I think everybody is in a continuous search of happiness. The real goal that the world needs is to renew our hearts. What I think about this CSW conference is that women keep concern about the same topic: their empowerment and they have reached very good results as we can see, but we need strategies no ideologies. Strategies are good means for reaching Goals, especially if it is involved the International Community.
