Youths are future leaders

We condemn the government and the elected leaders when they fail to deliver effectively. It’s ironic since many youths fail to exercise their democratic rights. The youth need not blame anyone but ourselves. Some feel like the voting system needs to be changed, but they don’t want to take responsibility. Why are some youths not interested in politics? What role should the youth play in politics?  How can we rekindle the interest of this young generation in politics?

It’s a sad state that the youth aren’t interested in politics, yet they are the leaders of tomorrow. The following are some reasons: No opportunities to prove their ability. People in government perceive the youths as inexperienced to participate actively in the governance of a given country. People in government need to realize that proper development can take place only when they make way for younger people to take control of some activities. Secondly, scams and bribery in politics.  Let’s take a look at some of the famous posters depicting the countries that recently held their elections. The pictures on the walls pose a question, are there no good politicians in the world? Well-mannered politicians exist but they aren’t put to the notice of the people. The corrupt ones may take it all due to the unchecked influence of money.

The world enjoys a large productive and young population as its asset. A few things need to be taken into consideration: age for retirement, literacy, and criminal background. The youths can contribute in many ways than just contesting for elections. The young generation can make an impact in areas such as educating the people, raising awareness about various social ills, etc. We can only wish that in the next election period, we find more names of youngsters as frontiers to make the world a better place.

We need to earn back youths’ interest in politics by doing the following: Political parties and parliament need to create reservations for youth. Children and relatives of politicians should be excluded from these reservation benefits to level the playing field. The younger generation must be involved in the election process as observers, poll station workers, etc.  Students of schools and universities need enlightenment on political awareness. Students’ wings of political parties need more strength and priority for their well-being.

The world desperately needs young leaders.  No doubt because we’ve progressed. Jk Rowling said,  “age is foolish and forgetful when it underestimates youth.’’ In today’s knowledge-based economy, what you have is more important than what you’ve experienced. It’s us, generation X(next), Y(youth), and Z(zealous), who need to bring the change we want. One act of defiance can spark a revolution. Inclusivity of the young generation into the political system needs consideration to facilitate the reconstruction of a better world.

Nobody can go back and start anew. Anyone can start today and make a new ending. Is the world ready for the young generation,  educated and eager for a positive revolution? If we want to see a better world, now becomes appropriate to take charge.  A prosperous future we all dream of comes from us. Unless youth feel concerned and get involved in leadership positions, we can’t expect the world to grow. It isn’t for us to complain and expect someone else to fix our problems.
