You saw the scars never questioned,

Were you ignorant or genuinely did not know?

She is not lazy, just tired.

Drowning in her own thoughts,

Trying to keep her head above the water,

Trying to get a little more oxygen,

Trying to please you and stay sane,

Trying to keep friends,

Trying to be okay,

But how can  it be when  suffocating?

She is running out of breath,

Blowing out a fire she knows not who ignited,

She knows she can’t let it consume her,

If she did…

That would be selfish, init?

So she cuts, allows herself to hurt.

Are you aware that her chest tightens?

It becomes hard to breath,

Her heart races a mile an hour,

She feels like the world caves in on her,

But she has to ground herself,

Assure herself that everything will be alright.

Don’t you see?,

She needs your help!

But you’re so blinded by societies “beliefs”,

You choose to see past her,

“Huyo ako sawa, ni moods tu” you say,

“Hiyo ni adole inamsumbua” is your defense.

You feel like she is being unfair to you,

Not appreciative of the things you do,

How can she be when all she feels is hollow,

It’s not about you,

It’s her world.

When was the last time you hugged her?

Told her it would be okay?

“Goodnight, I love you” she says.

“Goodnight”……That’s your reply?

No “I love you”?

Okay, maybe actions do speak louder than words.

Her silent prayer is that you notice,

If you would just see her,

Then maybe,

Just maybe everything would be alright.

She needs to get better,

She needs to be embraced,

She needs to feel loved,

She needs to feel your presence,

She needs to know she is not alone.

She needs you.
