Had I but seen the sun

And followed down the moon

With eyes that wondered at the stars,

What things I could have done!

For every sun I saw, I could have found another

And every moon I marveled at, I would have flown around.

For every star we gazed at, Mother,

I would have pulled one down.

But you have never seen your son,

And when your vision fades,

Who will lead you by the hand,

As I’d have gladly done?
