Take a moment to think about something positive that you heard on the news. Now think about a moment when you’ve had positive thoughts. Have you thought about anything other than or related to Covid-19 since being in quarantine? Do you feel yourself slowly going crazy? If so, then just know that you’re not alone and chances are that a lot of people around the world are feeling the exact same way. We’re staying inside for people in our lives who are immunocompromised, for our families, and for ourselves. I know that I have been having overwhelming emotions of helplessness; but, I say one phrase to myself every morning when I wake up “you got this!” and “thank you God for another day of life and of my health.” We have to find positive ways to cope.

Just because we are staying home, doesn’t mean that we have to stay completely isolated or cancel our everyday routines. We just need to change our mindsets and start doing things differently. We are living in a world, where even though we aren’t physically with people, we can still very much stay in contact with them through phone calls, text messages, emails, and even seeing them through facetime. Use this technology to reach out to someone who may actually be alone; check in on them to see how they’re doing. Find alternative ways to hang out with friends; Netflix has a new feature that is blowing up called ‘NetflixParty.” This new feature allows for viewers to watch movies together with their friends while messaging throughout the entire film or show; it was released by Netflix at the perfect time because we need it now.

If you need a break from technology (like I do) spend a little bit of time everyday getting some fresh air from outside. If you have a backyard, take the time to go outside when it’s nice and soak in some Vitamin C; if you do not have a backyard, then stick your head outside and feel the warmth of the sun on your face.

Make a routine and stick to it! This can help with spacing out your days; there is without a doubt a lot of work that probably needs to get done while in quarantine. If you space it out everything then it can help with differentiating your days while in quarantine. Also, find a space in your home where you can be by yourself, so that you can think. I know that this can often be easier said than done; being the oldest of nine with everyone doing at home learning is difficult. I have converted a little space in my family’s garage into my study corner. There is always somewhere that you can go.

Yes, this is a very difficult situation and yes, we are all scared; however, if we continue to fill our minds with what the media is portraying, we’ll go insane. Follow some positive social media profiles so that your feed can be filled with more than just negativity. Trying posting a positive quote everyday. Laughing is always good for your mental health!

I challenge you to try and find something (at least) once a day that makes you laugh or smile.
