In my last article, I tried to caution President Buhari, to be wary as he visits President Obama who has a world recognized penchant for the enthronement of LGBT rights even against the wishes of sovereign nations.
While some facebook users felt the article was premature- a response I predicted- my prediction was vindicated when the topic of Gay Marriage was raised with President Buhari on Tuesday.
In a post on his Twitter handle, Presidential Spokesman Femi Adesina said the issue had come up at the joint session of the US Senate and House Committee on foreign affairs and not in a direct meeting with President Obama.
He said “The issue of gay marriage came up yesterday, but the president was point blank, sodomy is against the law in Nigeria and abhorrent to our culture,” Adesina said, adding that talks had shifted to another matter once the president emphatically stated Nigeria’s stand on same sex marriage, the issue was not pushed.
In Nigeria, we are happy with the president for being truly African and Nigerian in re-asserting the eternal and natural truth that marriage is between a man and a woman. The truth as to the identity of marriage can only be forgotten but can never be falsified.
