Last month, on April 2nd, it was World Autism Awareness Day. April is also

World Autism Awareness Month.“Autism and other forms of disability are part of

the human experience that contributes to human diversity. As such, the

United Nations has emphasized the need to mainstream disability in the Organization’s

development agenda.”, quoted on the United Nations website. It is encouraging

that the United Nations wants to raise awareness for those with Autism and other

disabilities. I am blessed to know many with Autism and my life is better because of them.

But, as a Pro-Lifer, I worry about what may happen someday if there is a prenatal test

for Autism. When parents find out there child may have a disability, they are understandably

concerned. Unfortunately, though, some parents decide to abort their child upon finding

out this news. We have already seen this happen with Down Syndrome. As many as 90%

of babies with Down Syndrome end up being aborted, according to LifeNews.com.

This is very tragic, yet currently part of our culture. Thankfully, young people today are more

Pro-Life then previous generations. I also think that in many ways, society is much more

accepting of disabilities than it used to be. Overall, there is hope for a brighter future.

I hope and pray that our society doesn’t murder Autistic babies like it has murdered

babies with Down Syndrome.
