While the commonly held belief is that the term “pro-choice” refers to someone who is against abortion restrictions, a new study shows that the term is actually a misnomer in many cases. The reality is that, according to a recent poll, the majority of Americans are in favor of at least some abortion restrictions. A new national poll conducted by the Marist Institute for Public Opinion at Marist University found that 84% of Americans would limit abortion to, at most, the first three months of pregnancy.
What is particularly notable about this poll is that 69% of the people who are in favor of restrictions self-identity as pro-choice. This of course means that the term “pro-choice” can often be misleading because it does not account for the spectrum of opinions on abortion that exist.
There are pro-abortion politicians, like Hillary Clinton, who has contorted her conscientious to say that she supports abortion up until 9 months of pregnancy. However, even though radical abortion advocates like Hillary Clinton and Cecil Richards believe that the majority of Americans are on the same side of the fence as they are, the reality is that even though many people call themselves “pro-choice,” they are actually pro-life both in practice and theory.
