There has been a considerable amount of discussion recently about the possibility of overturning Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark decision that made abortion legal under the (nonexistent) guise of “privacy” in the constitution. In the recent presidential debates, the question of overturning this supreme court decision has been discussed with quite a bit of passion. As expected, many pro-choicers are scandalized by this question even being asked because they think that the abortion question is a done deal.

The little known reality, however, is that when Roe v. Wade was passed, it overturned at least 50 previous pieces of pro-life legislation that protected the unborn! Further, even if Roe v. Wade was a constitutional decision, (It wasn’t. The constitution does not once mention the word privacy) we need to recognize that nine unelected judges do not legislate morality. Should Roe v. Wade be overturned? Yes! It should not have been passed in the first place.
