Feminists and Pro-Choice advocates will be more than happy to spend time talking about the war on women: what women can do, what they cannot do, and that the right to choose is a women’s right. However, before girls can grow up and become women they have to survive the war on girls. Yes, you read that right, there is a war on girls. In order for a woman to have rights she must first be born, her mother must choose life, and raise the girl from childhood to adulthood. Every girl deserves the right to be born. Laws that are against sex selective abortion are not always enforced and young females are paying the price. Doesn’t that girl have every right to life? Baby girls are just as precious as boys and should not be killed based on their sex.

When people think of sex selective abortion they are not always aware that this is a growing problem in America. Countries such as China and India come to mind but not America. Today, most Americans oppose sex selective abortion; however, this type of abortion is neither illegal nor uncommon http://liveaction.org/gendercide/. According to the website entitled Gendercide: The systematic killing of girls there are 200 million missing women and girls globally due to sex selective abortions. 200 million girls killed simply because their parents want a son and  generally because culturally men have a higher status. These abortions are the most extreme and violent form of discrimination against women as they ruin the lives of two women, the mother and the child.

However, there is hope. We can look to South Korea who has endured cultural change and now respects and protects girls in their earliest stages of life. This happened because people were not afraid to speak up to discuss the issue and change their country. As people of a free nation, we must stop these violent acts against girls by not being afraid to spark conversation and fight for the right for life and end the war on girls.
